Tips | How To Get More Twitter Followers

get more twitter followers
Your friend, Mary, just started a new business selling accounting services to small business owners and wants to start promoting her new venture. While she is doing her research she stumbles upon Twitter as a way to engage with prospective clients. She knows that she needs to implement Twitter into her social media marketing strategy. Nothing new, right? We all use Twitter. Mary comes to you, a small business marketing consultant and asks ,"How do I get more twitter followers?"

1. Follow Your Target Audience

Knowing who your customer are will help you get more twitter followers. Make sure to follow and engage with your target audience. This will also help you increase the engagement of your followers. Knowing who you want to engage with on Twitter helps create a captive audience.

2. Insert A Link in Your Email Signature

Every time you send out an email from your personal and business email accounts you have an opportunity to promote your Twitter profile. You are already sending the email anyway, use it to your advantage.

3. Schedule Tweets Throughout The Day

Get more twitter followers by scheduling tweets. It is next to impossible to sit on twitter all day long, sending out tweets. My suggestion is to use a scheduler like Hootsuite or Buffer to schedule your tweets. Maybe you are able to sit down for 30 minutes a day to read your favorite blog, Punch In The Face Marketing. While you read through the new content, schedule out your tweet. Remember for your audience to see you, you have to be active.

4. Schedule that Tweet More Than Once

While you are in your favorite auto scheduler, make sure to schedule it more than one time. People are on twitter at random times every day, so make sure you give your audience a chance to see your content more than once. For example, your target audience might be checking tweets before work and late at night once the kids are in bed, but another potential customer might be checking in at lunch.

5. Test Different Times of The Day

People are on twitter at different times of the day, in order to get more twitter followers you need to know when your audience is online. Testing is the only way to know what is working. Testing different times of day, different topics, different #hashtags, and different types of content will give you different results. Use these results to help drive engagement with your followers. For example, if you get higher engagement when you tweet about a video versus a blog post, you will want to follow this data to add value to your followers. Testing is the best way to understand what is producing the most followers.

6. Respond To New Followers

Twitter is all about engaging with others. Make it a point to thank new followers, this could start a conversation that you may have missed out on. When you have a new follower check out their bio and recent tweets. You might discover that you have something in common that can break the ice. For example, you might have attended the same University and now have something to talk about. The simple act of saying hello can go a long way.

7. Use Relevant #Hashtags

People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show in Twitter Search. So when others are searching through Twitter, your #hashtags must be relevant to what they are searching. For example, if you own an auto body shop and use the hashtag #AutoRepair more people will find than using #NFLFootball. You may interested in football, but it is not a relevant #hashtag for your audience.

8. Create a Strong Profile

You profile on Twitter is the first thing people see. Make a strong first impression. Tell the people what you are all about in business and a little bit personal. Remember you are trying to make connections, give them a reason to connect. Your profile is all about you as a person, make it count.

9. Engage With Your Audience

In order to get more twitter followers, you must engage with your audience. You now have the tribe, following you on Twitter. It is time to start pumping out your content and driving web traffic, right? Pump the brakes, yes you do want to promote your content and your business, but at the same time make sure to engage with people. Reply to tweets you find interesting, thank people for sharing your content, give a shout out whenever you can. Build relationships, not a platform to advertise your stuff. There has to be balance.
